Updated on March 20, 2020

Dear Explore Families,

We are missing you dearly, but excited about the opportunity to continue to connect with you on our continued learning platform.  As we head into the weekend, we want to share some updates that may be useful to you next week.

Continued Learning Plan

Please continue to visit Explore Schools Continuing Education Website where you will find our continued learning plan as well as well as resources to support learning at home. On the site you will find:

  • Home Learning – assignments shared by your child’s teachers, as well as strategies we hope you find useful for home learning

  • Family Resources – resources to address your most pressing questions

  • Activities – online activities your child can do outside of school work

Please note that we will continue to update the site with current information and resources. Check back frequently!

Grab and Go Meals

  • Starting on Monday March 23rd, grab and go meals will only be available at 439 sites.
  • Please find the list of sites here: NYCDOE Meal Grab and Go Locations
    • Please note that these sites may change over time. We will notify you if there are any changes
  • Other relevant information:
    • Any students 18 and under may go to any of these sites to pick up one breakfast and two lunch meals.
    • Breakfast and lunch will be available for grab and go from 7:30am-1:30pm.
    • Grab and go meals will distributed by school food staff members.
    • The grab and go meals will be distributed at the main building entrance.
    • At the moment: students will only be able to pick up one day’s worth of meals (one breakfast and two lunch meals).

Regional Education Centers (RECs)

  • In order to successfully fight COVID-19, our first responders, health care providers, transit workers, and other key personnel must be able to come to work. That is why we have created Regional Enrichment Centers (RECs)—places where the children of these front-line workers can be safely cared for while their parents continue to serve the city in this time of need. Staffed by DOE employees and community-based organization partners, the centers will provide children with three hot meals daily, remote learning time with their teachers, activities like art and music, and social and emotional support. Regional Enrichment Centers will be available citywide.

Updated March 15th, 2020

Dear Explore Schools Families,

You may have heard recently that the DOE is closing schools and moving to remote learning until at least April 20th. We want to share how this recent decision will impact our school community.

We will implement the plan we shared on Friday. On Monday March 16th & Tuesday March 17th, all of our staff will work remotely with each other and school leaders to set up our Continued Learning plan. We will launch the plan on the morning of Wednesday March 18th. We will follow the DOE’s timeline and remain remote until at least April 20th. Beginning Wednesday March 18th, you can access Explore Schools continued learning site by visiting: Explore Schools Continuing Education Website for more detailed instructions to access work.

Updated March 13th, 2020

Dear Explore Schools Families,

After significant consideration and planning, we have decided to close all Explore Schools campuses on Monday, 3/16, and Tuesday, 3/17, in order for staff to begin planning for a possible longer-term school closure relating to COVID-19 (the novel Coronavirus). During this time, staff will be working to create and set up materials so that your child can continue learning from home.

On Wednesday, 3/18, your child will either (1) return to school or (2) begin home based learning because of school closures. If school is closed, we ask that you support your child with independent continued learning while the school building is closed. Your child should be spending 4-5 hours per day doing educational activities, with teachers available by phone and email to support with questions and to give feedback. Please be aware that your child’s daily “attendance” and work submission is required, and that missing work will detrimentally impact your child’s grade.

Please go online and visit: Explore Schools Continuing Education Website for more detailed instructions for families to access work.

We ask that you check your emails and calls so that you are kept up to date.
